Whatsapp for iPhone Will Prevent Users From Taking Screenshots of ‘View Once’ Photos and Videos

The “View Once” feature, added to WhatsApp last year, is similar to Snapchat and Instagram in that it deletes sent photographs and videos after they have been seen. Now, the platform wants to take it to the next level by making it so “View Once” photos and movies can’t be captured in screenshots or screen recordings.

Whatsapp Will Prevent Users From Taking Screenshots of Certain Media

For material transmitted using the “View Once” option, the current WhatsApp beta version on TestFlight for iPhone users prevents snapshots and screen recordings, as noticed by WABetaInfo, which is recognized for reporting what’s new in WhatsApp betas.

WhatsApp now displays a notice claiming the capture was “restricted for increased privacy” whenever a user tries to take a screenshot while watching a “View Once” media. WABetaInfo demonstrated that this warning will be preserved in the final snapshot or screen recording in place of the real content, safeguarding the sender.

Users using the 22.21.0.71 beta version of WhatsApp can get the update (build 405622068). The new privacy feature will be enabled by default for all WhatsApp users once it is released, and cannot be turned off. The team at 9to5Mac was able to test out the new function, and they report that it performs as advertised.

However, when exactly WhatsApp intends to roll out this upgrade that blocks screenshots to the general public is unclear.

The Whatsapp Team is Hard at Work Developing Even More Exciting Features

In addition to this, the most recent beta versions of WhatsApp also provide the option to make polls that users may participate in. Just like Zoom and FaceTime, WhatsApp recently announced that its users will be able to share links inviting others to join a call.

Using Catalyst technology, the business has been developing a new macOS program that is based on the iPhone app in order to make it operate more efficiently and with fewer hardware requirements. A beta version of the new WhatsApp client for Mac is already accessible, but the new native WhatsApp app for Windows is now available for download.
