The Legend of Zelda

Since I began playing video games as a hobby and form of escape, the Legend of Zelda series has been an integral part of my life. It has had a profound impact on my worldview and the way I approach problems.

Since the next The Legend of Zelda game, Tears of the Kingdom, has a release date of May 13, I figured we should look back at the series’ finest entries.

A Rope From the Past: The Legend of Zelda

Although it came out somewhat late in the series, I consider A Link to the Past to be one of the best-designed entries. For the time of its 1991 debut on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, the game’s visuals are stunning.

The vibrant, welcoming setting immediately piques curiosity and inspires a sense of adventure. The creators pulled off the interesting idea of being able to perform chores and advance in the game by traveling to a darker environment.

In Link’s Awakening From the Legend of Zelda, the Hero, Link, Finally Comes to Life

There are presently two games available with the same name, but I’ll be focusing on the GameBoy release from 1993. To receive a small rooster sidekick, you have to go on a long fetch quest in the middle of the game, which entails trading stuff with different characters.

The first woodland is my primary gripe. For the longest time, I couldn’t figure out how to escape the woodland where you and a raccoon and an owl are stuck.

The Legend of Zelda

An overarching goal or objective would greatly improve this game. The need of venturing out into the world is emphasized, but you are not given any impetus to do it.

GameCube’s Majora’s Mask From The Legend of Zelda Series

Majora’s Mask, one of the most well-known entries in the series, was initially published in 2000 for the Nintendo 64 and was re-released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2015. Together with Ocarina of Time, this game was instrumental in reviving interest in the series and restoring it to the positive status it has maintained ever since.

When it comes to background and plot, this is the entry that stands out to me the most. Almost every character and object in the game has an original backstory that will not appear in any other game.

Fans are divided on whether or not this is a legitimate sequel to previous games in the series or only a hallucinatory experience brought on by donning Majora’s Mask. This astonished me when I was a kid, and it still fascinates me now.

Breath of the Wild, a New Installment in the Zelda Series

Fans agree that this 2017 Nintendo Switch edition is the pinnacle of the franchise. It’s not my top pick, but it’s still well-regarded because of its beauty, fascinating exploration, and solid handling.

Breath of the Wild’s vast amount of material is one of the game’s best features.

I am one of those looneys you hear about that clocked a perfect game, and it was well worth my time. Most players’ main wish since the first game’s release was granted with Breath of the Wild: the freedom to roam Hyrule at will.

The Wind Waker, a Legend of Zelda Game

The game is a true work of art. The Wind Waker, originally published for the GameCube in 2002 and then re-released in high definition for the Wii U in 2013, represents a significant visual leap from its GameCube predecessor. Since it followed Majora’s Mask, the blockiness was no longer present.

With its lighthearted, cartoonish atmosphere, the game invites you to get in and have a look around.

When I initially played the game, I really enjoyed the opportunity to explore the ocean and locate new islands. If you are not quite ready to go forward with the plot, there are plenty of fun minigames and other activities to enjoy.

Finally, the soundtrack is my favorite aspect of this game. It’s so happy and sweet that I could listen to it all day.

In sum, The Wind Waker is one of my favorite games of all time and the best in the Legend of Zelda series.
