Google’s Pixel Watch has yet to be officially announced, but we can expect it to happen very soon. On October 6, Google is holding an event where it is expected to announce the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones and its first wearable.
At its I/O developer conference in May, Google showed off a prototype of the Pixel Watch. Company representatives demonstrated the watch’s design and mentioned that it will incorporate Fitbit’s health-tracking technology. The price and release date of the Pixel Watch remains unknown.
Google’s Pixel Watch is the company’s first consumer wristwatch, although it has been developing wearables software for years. The Pixel Watch is a chance for Google to demonstrate its vision for the perfect Android timepiece, just like the Pixel phones have done for Android smartphones.
This Autumn, It Will Comes Alongside the Pixel 7
In May, Google confirmed that the official release of the Pixel Watch will occur in the fall. There is hope that the Pixel Watch will be released soon following Google’s announcement on October 6. If that’s the case, the Pixel Watch’s release timeline would mirror that of other Google devices. For instance, Google introduced the Pixel 5 at a press conference on September 30, 2020, and the Pixel 6 at an event on October 19, 2020.
The Pixel Watch Includes Adjustable Bands
Google has been quite secretive about many of its products, but the Pixel Watch design was something they were happy to show off. Google’s first smartwatch appears like it will have a circular face with a domed shape and glass that curls over the edges, as suggested by the leaks.
The watch case is constructed from recycled stainless steel, and it features a tactile crown styled like Apple’s own. We will also provide straps that may be personalised. According to 9to5Google, the watch will be available in black, silver, and gold, and will be 40 millimetres broad and 14 millimetres thick.
From what we’ve seen thus far, the Pixel Watch boasts a stunning design that can hold its own against other high-end smartwatches such as the Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, and others. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, was also seen at the Code 2022 conference sporting what seemed to be a Pixel Watch.
Google published a YouTube video on September 22 showcasing the watch’s design in advance of the Oct. 6 presentation. The video provides an in-depth look at the Pixel Watch, including its rotating crown on the side, the bands that attach to the body of the watch, and the several watch faces that will be available.
The Watch Runs Google’s Wear Os and Applications
To no one’s surprise, Google’s forthcoming wristwatch will utilise the Wear OS platform. Google didn’t reveal many details about the watch’s software, only that it was “fluid” and “simple to browse.”
Google’s VP of devices and services, Rick Osterloh, has described the OS as “tappable, voice-enabled, and glanceable.” During its presentation, the firm gave a quick look at how applications like Google Maps, Google Wallet, Google Home, and Google Assistant will function on the watch.
Fitbit Will Be Integrated, but Not Replaced
The newest Fitbit Sense 2, Versa 4, and Inspire 3 models to show that the company has no plans to stop making wearables anytime soon. However, some of the most popular Fitbit functions will eventually make their way to the Google Watch.
Monitoring your heart rate in real-time, keeping tabs on how long you sleep, and keeping tabs on how long you stay in your target heart rate zone during exercise are all examples of this. Google also demonstrated how health data from a connected Fitbit device, such as heart rate and step count, would be shown on the watch face.
However, whatever particular health tracking sensors will be included in the Pixel Watch remains unknown. But it appears that in the near future, the Pixel Watch will get further Fitbit features. James Park, the co-founder of Fitbit and current head of Google’s wearables group, told CNET’s Scott Stein, “This is not a one and done.” We plan to keep refining the programme as time goes on.
It Will Only Work on Android-based Smartphones and Tablets
According to a Google representative, the Pixel Watch will not be compatible with Apple’s iPhones since it was designed to work exclusively with Google’s Pixel smartphones. Given that Fitbit’s watches and trackers are compatible with both iOS and Android, this may be one of the reasons why the Pixel Watch won’t take over the market.
Cellular Service Will Be Available
The Pixel Watch will be available with 4G LTE connectivity from Google, so it can stay connected to the internet even when a user’s phone isn’t in close proximity. Google might differentiate its wearables from Fitbit’s in several ways, one of which being the availability of cellular connectivity in the former’s smartwatches while the latter does not.
It Will Have Premium Pricing
The price of Google’s Pixel Watch has not yet been announced. Osterloh, however, stated in a press conference that the product will be priced more than its competitors. We don’t know what this implies, but it appears to be in the same ballpark as the Apple Watch Series 8 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4.
Samsung’s typically start at $250 (£249), while Apple’s high-end watch begins at $399 (£419, AU$629). That tallies with reports from 9to5Google and Pricebaba, which state that the Wi-Fi alone version might cost between 250 and 350 euros in Europe, and the cellular version could start at $399 in the United States.
Battery, Processor and Other Specs
Google has been tight-lipped regarding the Pixel Watch’s features, however, 9to5Google claims that it has Google disclosed specifics on the battery, CPU, and RAM. The Pixel Watch’s battery life will supposedly be around one day, with a capacity of 300 mAh. That sounds about right for competing with the Apple Watch, although anecdotally I’ve been able to get about a day and a half out of the new Series 8.
According to 9to5Google, the Pixel Watch will use Samsung’s Exynos 9110 engine and a coprocessor, and it will feature 1.5GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The usual mobile device has 8GB of RAM, so that gives you an idea of the scale. There’s 32GB of storage on the Apple Watch, so it’s likely that the Pixel Watch will feature the same amount.
