Musk Launches “TruthGPT” to Challenge ChatGPT

Musk announced his intention to construct a competing artificial intelligence chatbot to ChatGPT, which he dubbed “TruthGPT,” in an interview with Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson that aired on Monday night.

“maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe.”

Musk has stated that the goal of creating AI is to learn about mankind so that it will be less likely to harm humanity.

Musk has expressed concern about ChatGPT“is being trained to be politically correct.”

Musk, in the first of a two-part interview with Carlson, called for AI regulation and described himself as a “big fan.” He suggested AI may wipe off humans and was “more dangerous” than automobiles or rockets.

Business records in Nevada reveal that Musk has formed a new company under the name X.AI Corp. Musk is listed as the company’s director and longtime adviser Jared Birchall is listed as the company’s secretary on the website of the Nevada Secretary of State’s office, which indicates that the company was formally founded on March 9.

Over the course of his career, Musk has been quite vocal about his views on AI, often dismissing the expertise of other tech titans like Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates because of their “limited” knowledge in the area.

“As Tesla continues to become more focused on AI, this will eliminate a potential future conflict for Elon,” OpenAI stated in a blog post back in February 2018.

“I came up with the name and the concept,” Musk said to Carlson, criticizing the fact that OpenAI is no longer independent from Microsoft and is instead tightly affiliated with the software giant.

Musk provided further context for his 2019 exit, stating he had disagreements with OpenAI’s leadership and needed to focus on engineering issues at Tesla. It was “just better to part ways on good terms,” And he went on to say.

“Tesla was competing for some of same people as OpenAI & I didn’t agree with some of what OpenAI team wanted to do,” Musk tweeted vaguely about something.

However, Tesla’s AI systems’ credibility has been called into doubt. In a deadly collision in California last month, a Tesla was suspected of employing an autonomous driving system and crashed into a parked firetruck, prompting an inquiry by U.S. safety officials.

The examination into the firetrucks is a subset of a wider investigation into various incidents in which Teslas operating under the guidance of the company’s Autopilot technology collided with parked emergency vehicles responding to previous accidents.

In the past year, the NHTSA has announced many recalls and investigations against Tesla vehicles due to safety concerns.

Despite the fact that OpenAI had not yet begun development on ChatGPT a full year after Musk’s departure from the board, the company had already released the first iteration of their GPT technology (the foundation of ChatGPT) to the public.

Musk predicted on Twitter in 2020 that  “OpenAI should be more open” in spite of the fact that he had “no control & only very limited insight” I’m very into it.

He has been complimentary on occasion. Musk tweeted to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman that “scary good” ChatGPT was released on November 30 and that the media wasn’t covering it enough, despite the fact that “ChatGPT is not a far-left cause.”

However, since then, Musk has often cited instances that he claims demonstrate left-wing bias or censorship. ChatGPT, like other chatbots, is equipped with filters to stop it from responding negatively or offensively.
