Face unlock and eSIM information for the Google Pixel 7 has been leaked via Play Console.

On October 6, Google is set to unveil the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro to the public. Recent leaks suggest there won’t be a major improvement over the Pixel 6 line of phones, but we still expect them to be among the greatest Android phones. Nonetheless, Google appears to be working to enhance a number of minor aspects of its products. The most recent data suggest that dual eSIM and face unlock capabilities will be available.

Google’s Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro (codenamed Panther and Cheetah, respectively) were discovered by Android specialist Mishaal Rahman on the Google Play Console. The items have been removed, but Rahman still found some fascinating nuggets in the publicly available data before the corporation did so.

t-weight: 400;”>eSIM MEP is supported by both of the new Pixel variants (short for Multiple Enabled Profiles). This implies that two eSIM profiles may be engaged at once, mimicking the dual SIM capabilities of earlier Pixels that depended on a single physical SIM card and a single eSIM profile to do this.

With MEP, the Pixel 7 series might eliminate the SIM card slot yet still enable two SIMs. Although, whether Google will offer models without a tray is unknown. It may just be a trial run for a similar feature in a later version of the product.

Both the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are listed as supporting “android.hardware.biometrics.face,” indicating that a biometric face unlock feature is included. Since the Pixel 4 and 4 XL were the final Pixel phones to announce support for true secure face unlocks, it is unclear how the devices would achieve this capability.

Either Google has upgraded its algorithms for software-based facial recognition, or it has implemented new hardware in its phones. Google also provides fingerprint-aided face recognition, which might make it easier to unlock your device with a fingerprint if your face is known. Given that the fingerprint scanners on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are exceedingly picky and sluggish, it’s encouraging to see that Google is working on a solution.

Some previously undiscovered important specifications are also confirmed by the listing. Pixel 7 will include 8GB of RAM and a 1080×2400 display at a pixel density of 420dpi. The Pixel 7 Pro will have a 1440 x 3120 display with 560 PPI and 12 GB of RAM.

Both devices are powered by Google’s new Tensor G2 chipset, which has been proven to have two enormous ARM Cortex-X1 cores running at 2800MHz, two enormous A76 cores running at 2250MHz, and four little Cortex-A55 cores running at 1800MHz. In comparison to the first-generation Tensor chip, this is a minor improvement, but we expect it will reduce the chip’s tendency to overheat.
